Wellington, February 8. Ihe Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegiam Irom the Agent-General, London, dated the 6th instant :—. Stocks of mutton on hand arc Ji;?ht and (irmly held in few hands. Ihe market is dull, notwithstanding reports of light shipments from New! Zealamid. The average price to-day for Canterbury brands is Kd per a,' for Dunedin, Southland, and W.M.K. Co.'s brands 4 jd, other North Island brands l|<d, R)iver Plate mutton 3^d. The lamb market is quiet. The average price being realised for shipment of new season's ex-A thenic is ti.',d. River Plate lamb 2jjd. The butter market is weaker, though prices cannot be quoted as lower, The average price for choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 97s per cwt, Argentine 925, Danish 110s.
The cheese market is .dull, and verjrf lil.t.le business is doing. The average price for finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 51s per cwt.
The cocksfoot rnirket is steady, liufe without animation. The average price ui bright clean New Zealand seeo' weighing 17 Hi per bushel on spot to-day is 52s per cwt.
Following are particulars of shipments of Argentine mutton, lamlb, and butter landed in the United Kingdom a'uring the past moftth : •—Mutton, 155.194 carcases, of which 10,696 were landed at London. 101,•380 at Liverpool, 13,656 it t Hull, at Newcastle. 11 .'05(1 at Car.* difT, 2000 at Southampton, and 100 ft at Plymouth. Lamb, 31,0-10 carcases of which 6560 were, landed at London. 20.180 at Liverpool, 2000 at. Hull. 1000 at Newcastle, ami 1000 at Cardiff. Buiter, 15,258pw1, landixt at London, Liverpool, Hull, and Southampton.
