More Boer Surprises.

DETERMINED BRITISH DEFENCE. {Per United Press Association. — i Received January 15. 8.59 a.m. London, January 14. Further particular- relate that the Boers, wearing khaki and British bandoliers, surprised a sentry at Zuurfontein and got within seven yards of the trenches before they were identified. The leader was unhorsed, but crawled back, and was shot dead as he rose. He proved to be a member of the Free State Volksraad. One hundred and fifty Britishers with the utmost gallantry repelled a thousand of the enemy. Lieutenant Freeman, with 90 of the Cheshire Mounted Infantry and a few detailed troop 3, were entrenched at Kaalfootein and came eff scatheless. Eight hundred boers, with two guns, vainly shelled the position and made repeated attempts to rush the trenches, bat were splendidly repelled with heavy losses.
