Lord Salisbury at Guildhall, referring to the future af South Africa said that Great Britain sought no territory or goldfields, and only desired equal rights for all races and the security of the Empire, and aimed ultimately at restoring good government to prevent the recurrence of dangers which contributed to the present condition of affairs in the Transvaal. Lord Wolseley also spoke, expressing regret that the Imperial amhorities were unable to accept a tithe of tbe offers of assistance from the militia, volunteers and the colonies. He aided that if ne:essay, a fresh division of the Second Army Corps could be mobilised immediately
