Bookmakers Fined.

Wanganui, This day. At the Magistrate's Court this morning Charles Redfern, Harry Darling, and Donald Campbell were each fined £2O, whilst Robert Walker, William Marriott and Patrick Sheehan, alias Conway, who acted as clerks to the above, were fined £'lo each by Mr Kettle, S.M., for laying tote odds at the Wanganui races yesterday. The full penalty provided by the Act is £l2O, and the Magistrate intimated that, in future, clerks would be treated the same as book-keepers, and imprisonment in place of fines would be inflicted. Detective Bishop laid the information.
