The police have been warned that three escapees are on board the steamer Bippingham Grange, which left New Caledonia on Thursday and sails here today for coal.
Two shops belonging to Smatt and Hay have been burned at Blenheim. They were insured for .£6BO in the Manchester and New Zealand.
The Government have decided to supply gratis a copy of the N.Z. Justice of the Peace Handbook, prepared by Mr Hatelden, S.M„ to any J.P. who ruakes application for it.
No tenders were received for the iron railway viaduct at Piripiri, near Dannevirke. The Department will probably have to undertake the construction of the viaduct itself.
It has been decided that the encampment for the Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, and Wellington volunteers be held here and at Easter, and not at Woodville as at first suggested.
