Nailer, last night. There were four new bankruptcies notified in this morning’s Herald, one ot which—that of Major Slingsley Bell—occasioned much surprise. An eight roomed house In Thompson Road, belonging to and occupied by David Leslie, wae almost entirely burnt down at about noon yesterday. The fire started in the kitchen, and was caused through a defective chimney. Although at first it might have been easily extinguished, there was not enough water at band for that purpose, and by the time the two brigades had got tq work the fire had got too great a hold. The house and furniture were insured for £550. of which £450 is in the Australian Alliance and £lOO in the Royal. A good deal 0! furniture was saved, but Mr Leslie will lose considerably over the amount ot insurances,
