Sporting Notes.

V KBir.Y, the ways that are d ark and the tricks that are vain, may ba discovered by a casual and observant looker-on at a race track. Yesterday, instead of trusting to outside information I personally visited the track at Matawhero and saw nothing. The horses were not allowed even to extend themselves, with the exception of Impostox - , who did it on his own account. Assignee, Off Color, Luna, did fair work, the former showing most condition. The son of Anteros is big as a bullock and must be sent more than a three mile hand gallop to get him fit by Boxing Day. Luna, though striding like a thorough good one, is not well and finishes tired. Burnand’s team are evidently too full of work and too short of oats—both Impostor and Privateer showing signs of weakness. Of Malone’s it is hard to write about. Bit of Blue, with the lighest of weigh* procurable, did the quietest of quiet oanters. The Moor was gently exercised. Bachelor essayed a couple of oanters, but was evidently reserved for a gallop after the morning visitor# had left. Walsh’s Puni did a couple of miles in a style which makes it evident that this, one of the I finest oolts ever foaled in the district, should * be in batter hands. Cairngorm is reported to < have gone crooked.
