It offers a striking oemmentory on the inconsistency of social reformatory legislation, that while the exhibition of a picturesque and instructive diorama is forbidden under heavy penalties, if a few trifling presents are given away as prizes, and half! crown sweeps amongst a party of friends at the races are suppressed by the ■' Foorce, ’ the lowest and most dishonest form of public entertainment in the country is allowed to go on in full swing. These glove fights are just ae demoralising as prize fights, without their redeeming feature of brute and courage. They bring together all the worst elements in the community, and having got them together, they bring the worst qualities. It would be an unmixed blessing if they were put a stop to absolutely, and we hope that if the law as it stands will not enable that to be done, a Bill for the purpose will be brought in and carried this session.— Press.
