WAR OFFICE SCANDAL
AN ENQUIRY DEMANDED. A GOVERNMENT DEFEAT. GREAT EXCITEMENT. London, October 27. The French Chamber of Deputies have demanded an immediate enquiry to be made into the War Office scandal. ™, , October 28. The motion to appoint a committee to enquire into the Cafferel scandal came on in the Chamber of Deputies on October 27th. The motion occasioned the greatest excitement. The speeches were of the most animated description. Despite the strong opposttion on the part of the Government the motion was carried. The Opposition party are jubilant and intense interest is being evinced in probable further developments. It is feared that President Grevy will resign.
The Right and the [Extreme Left coalesced to carry the motion. If President Grevey supports M. Wilson the Government will be severely shaken.
