Dunn V. Cannon.

ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO GAROTT.

The five-style wrestling match for £2OO between Dunn and Cannon came off at Melbourne recently and terminated in an unseemly wrangle. It will be remembered that Caution won the last match by garotting Dunn so badly as to disable him from continuing the match, and the same resort seems to have been intended in the present match, The only chance ot Cannon being able to score a victory seems to have been in the probability of his disabling his opponent in the Grieco-Roman style—in the other styles Dunn was acknowledged by many to be the best man. Under the GrtecoRoman rules garotting is allowed. . he contest caused great interest, and there was a large attendance. In the Cumberland style Dunn obtained the first fall easily. The Gweco-Roman fall was awarded to Cannon, but this Cannon would not agree to—evidently not having accomplished his intention of injuring Dunn. Those present could see that foul play was intended, and there was great excitement. After Dunn had got to his feet he boldly declared that he would again try conclusions. Although the audience were unwilling that Dunn should place himself in the hands of Cannon, he was loudly cheered on his plucky determination. After some by-play Dunn, by a lucky catch, threw Cannon, and the house seethed with excitement. Cannon again rushed at Dunn as if nothing had happened, but the Referee gave the fall to Dunn. There was the wildest excitement, and an attempt by Cannon to resume the contest after he had been declared beaten was stayed by the attitude of the audience towards him. The match was awarded to Dunn amidst great applause. The Argus is agitating for the suppression of wrestling under Gaieco-Roman rules as being brutal.
