THE FRENCH AND THE NEW HEBRIDES. London, July 30. The French papers are rejoicing greatly on the reports of the colonising agents upon the thriving condition and enormous produce of the settlements in the New Hebrides; LOBb ABERDEEN ON HOME RULE. London, July 30. Lord Aberdeen, inthe .qourse of an interview with the representative ol tne Freeman's Journal, stated that he was completely overwhelmed by the depth ot conviction in Australia that Home Bule was necessary fur the welfare ot Ireland, He found New Zealand was more in sympathy with Mr Gladstone than the other colonies:

Lord Salisbury, Speaking at Norwich, said that Ireland would not be allowed to interfere with the legislation of the rest of the kingdom for another session. THE ENGLISH PREMIER ON FREE TRADE. Speaking at Norwich, Lord Salisbury said Fieetrade was condemned by everybody but themselves. He did not admit that Freetrade was wrong, but the British system was so full of anomalies which required to be dealt with, The farmers were a iking that duties be charged on imported produce; He believed that it was necessary that the country should retrace its steps and make fiscal alterations for the benefit of tile farmers. AFGHAN BOUNDARY SETTLEMENT. The settlement of the Afghan boundary question was produced by the Czar overruling his advisers.

The Russian press is now more favourable in the tone of its remarks toward England. VALUABLE EXHIBITS. Mr Streeter, the London jeweller, intend’ to exhibit diamonds and jewellery at the Melbourne Exhibition to the value of a quarter of a million. Mr Hancock of Bond street, will also send a valuable collection o J precious stones and jewellery. The applicants for space are numerous. SALE OF HOPS. The first pocket of hops have been sold at £lO per cwt. LORD BERESFORD’S SERVICES TO BE RETAINED. Lord Charles Beresford has not been censured for his breach of etiquette at the recent review, and retains office as minor Lord ot the Admiralty.
