MR ORMOND.

WE trust the Napier Liberals may succeed in inducing Mr Ivess to stand against Mr Ormond. He would make a capital member for the district; one who would assist the struggling settlers of Hawkes Bay to the utmost of his ability, whilst the great “ I Am" Ormond is well known for his sneering, captious, antagonistic spirit with which he regards any efforts to settle the land. Ormond, too, is a man without a following in the House, and rightly so, for a more selfish, narrow-minded politician never sat on the benches. Of course the whole of the Hawkes Bay squattocracy will fight hard for the representative of their clique, but if the people pull well together, put their shoulders to the wheel, and work hard for their man, the result might yet prove a disappointment for the Ormond gang. Mr Ivess has, we understand, purchased the Napier Evening News, a journal, which, by its outspoken advocacy of the many against the selfish domineering of the wealthy and arrogant few, has gained a high reputation. We wish Mr Ivess hearty success in his new venture, and trust he may be persuaded to enter upon a conflict which would necessarily be a severe one, but the result of which might, with pluck, energy, and a little good luck, rid the House of one of the most bigoted opponents of the rights and prosperity of the people.
