FAR-FETCHED CHARGE BY SOVIET AGAINST WESTERN POWERS
NEW YORK, November 10. Russia to-day. accused' the Western Powers of recruiting displaced persons and refugees for espionage work. M. Alexander Panyushkin (Soviet delegate) told the ■ Social Committee: “Hundreds of thousands of Soviet citizens have been transported to the United States, Britain, Erance, Belgium and South America, against their will. They are being utilised primarily for espionage in various intelligence services-” M. Panyushkin denied a Yugoslav accusation that Yugoslav students in Russia were prevented from returning to their own country. He said the charge “was a provocative act by the representative of the Tito clique.” A sharp reply came from the Yugoslav delegate, M. Vladimir Dedijer, who said: "I am proud of being a member of Tito’s clique. The Soviet representative knows we are strong. If we had not been, they would have been able to subjugate us.” M. Vyshinsky Talks of Soviet-U.S. Friendship NEW YORK, Nov IL M. Vyshinsky, addressing the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship in New York, made a strong plea for peace. The Council of American-Soviet Friendship is on the United States Government’s list of subversive organisations. M. Vyshinsky spoke for 70 minutes in n jovial and suave manner. He said.— “We for peace and equality between the nations, and Socialism.” Noting that it was the sixteeenth anniversary of Soviet-American relations, M. Vyshinsky said: “It is an important friendship, because friendly relations between these two countres is the best guarantee of peace throughout the world. We appreciate your efforts to prevent the disruption of that friendship.” He added that the Soviet delegates had attended the current session of the United Nations Assembly, "to prove, that mankind wants peace: that all people, the world over, hate war and want it killed at the very beginning/'
