CRICKET AUSTRALIANS BEAT RHODESIA BY AN INNINGS AND 161

(Rec. 9.30)' CAPETOWN, Nov. 12. Australia, by hitting up 398 runs, and- bundling Rhodesia out for .71 in the second innings, after four minutes extra time at Bulawayo to-day, won by an innings and 161 runs. It was Australia’s second successive first-class victory, clinched in two days in a scheduled three day match, of the tour. Australia’s attack, which has been a suspect lately, began to look the part against Rhodesia at Bulawayo yesterday. A most pleasing feature of the dhy’s play from the Australian test angle, was that R. Lindwall showed he is slipping into top gear. There was life and fire in his bowling, which was missing in previous games. lan Johnson and McCool also bowled well. Rhodesian batsmen struggled all through their first innings for runs which came at a dreary pace. The opening batsman, Baldwin, was, at one stage, 40 minutes without scoring, and he batted 117 minutes for his 16. The Australian openers, Morris and Moroney, put on 81 in 65 minutes before stumps. On resuming to-day, the Australian openers, Morris and Moroney,, both scored their second centuries of the tour ,while spin bowlers lan Johnson and McCool were wreckers in Rhodesia’s second innings, bagging between them 15 of 19 Rhodesian wickets which fell to the bowlers.. Rhodesia's score in the first innings was 166 —Singleton, ' c Lindwall, b Johnston 21; Baldwin, b McCool 16; Harris, lbw, b Lindwall 0; Mansell, c Hassett, b Johnson 28; Martin, b Lindwall 30; Cbrran, st. Runanga’s Lucky Win Over Cobden In a match that could have gone etiher way in the last ten minutes, Runanga were rather fortunate to take the decision against a depleted Cobden team at Runanga yesterday. The home team won the toss and sent Cobden to the wicket and had them dismissed for 29 runs. The only batsman to reach double figures for Cobden was A. Knapp 12. ' The Runanga bowling was deadly as shown by the analysis. Cobden made a much better showing in their second innings with a score of 85. A. Knapp again topped the batsmen with 29. Two primary schoolboys, G. Williams and J. Wilson put up a very creditable performance, . Williams scoring 10 in his second innings. Cobden were unfortunate this season as they have lost eight of their best players. A precedent in the history of cricket in Runanga was established when a ball from Vaughan to Wallace went between the wickets but did not dislodge the bails, consequently the umpire ruled the batsmen as not put. Runanga took a chance in their second innings by leaving their best batsmen to last. The fafiof wickets 1 for 3,2 for 3, 3 for. 10, 4 and 5 for 10, and 6 for 19 is a fair criterion.
