Communist Candidate At Paroa

Mr. R. H. Mitchell, Communist candidate for Westland addressed a well attended meeting at Paroa School Hall on Tuesdty night. He spoke for IL hours, and half an hour was devoted to questions. Mr. Mitchell’s handling of the questions provoked favourable comment from the audience. He said that, attacks had been made by the Labour Party Government on rights of individuals, quoting the case of Holmes. He said that “Mr. Holmes was attacked at a time when the illpaid Public Service were struggling for a> small and legitimate salary adjustment.” He said such an attack was a forerunner of more attacks on militant sections of workers. He said that the Labour Government was attempting to see that the workers and not the bosses would carry the burden of what he predicted was an oncoming depression. The meeting, over which Mr. T. Neame presided, accorded Mr. Mitchell a unamimous vote of thanks.
