EARLIER MARKET AT ADDINGTON IS SATISFACTORY

F.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov S. The Addington stock market was held one day earlier than usual this week on account of the Metropolitan Show on Thursday and Friday. For an off-day sale ,it was more satisfactory than many of its predecessors. Store Sheep The yarding, consisting of 1752 hoggets, 450 ewes and lambs, and 558 wethers—a total of 2760, agawisf 4171 last week. The gallery was small. The market was lacking in animation. Hogget prices, did not show much change from last week. Two pens of good cross-bred ewe hoggets in wool made 49s 6d; good shorn ewe hoggets made 33s to 39s 6d, and ordinary 29s 6d to 325. Good shorn wether hoggets made 31s to 36s 6d. Ordinary were from 24s 6d to 80s. Only five pens of ewes and lambs were offered. Medium woolly .ires made to 235. Shorn sold to 225. The demand was slack. The prices were from Is to 2s a head lower The wether offering, which included some sizeable lines, made prices about on a par with last week. Good lots made 34s to. 375; others were 30s to 325. Spring Lambs The entry totalled 570, of good quality, against the record tally of 815 last week. Competition was strong. Prices advanced at least two shillings. Best quality spring lambs made 41 to 44s 7d; good 37s to 40s and medium and light 33s to 365. Fat Hoggets The entry numbered 647, half ot the previous week’s entry. For best quality there was a good sale at prices above last week. The medium and light lines remained on a par with last week’s low rates. The best of the yarding made 45s to 51s 7d; good 38s to 44s and medium and light 30s to 375.' Fat Sheep The entry was 3900, aaginst last week’s 4800. It contained a large proportion of plain and unfinished old wethers. The sale began slowly. Less attractive sheep were hard to sell. Prices were from on a par with last week, to a shade easier. About half way through the sale a brisk demand set in. Prices rose steadily for all classes by fully four shillings a bead. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 55s Id; prime heavy wethers 40s 6d to 475; prime medium weight wethers 33s 6d to 39s 6d: ordinary and light wethers 25s to 32s extra prime ewes to 39s Id; prime ewes 32s to 35s 6d; prime medium weight ewes 27s to 31s; ordinary and light ewes 21s to 265. Fat Cattle The entry was 533, a§ against 782 last week. The yarding contained a fair showing of medium steer beef, and some excellent cow beef. Heifers were in larger numbers than usual. The sale started shakily. It steadied later. 'Prices lowered from £1 to 25s a head below last week’s rates for steers and heifers, cows were in relatively better demand. The best were on a par with last week. The others were easier by 10s a head. Best beef made 80s per lOOlbs; good 50s to 60s; medium to 47s 6d; best cow beef to 57s -6d; secondary cow to 40s. Values were: extra prime heavy steers to £36 7s 6d; prime steer's £24 to £2B; prime medium weight steers £lB to £23 10s; ordinary I and light steers £l4 to £l7 10s; extra prime heifers to £26 7s 6d; prime heifers £l3 10s to £l9 10s; ordinary and light heifers £7 ( 0s to £l3; extra prime cows to £27 17s 6d; prime cows £ll 10s to £l7s 10s; ordinary and plain cows £7 to £lO 10s. Pigs There was a medium entry of pork and over the first half of the sale, prices were firm. Later they improved by four to six shillings. Choppers had a small yarding and values showed little change. The bacon yarding was also small and all but over-fats met excellent competition. Values were: light porkers £4 9s 6d to £5 2s 6d; medium porkers £5 9s 6d to £5 19s Gd; heavy porkers £6 2s Gd to £6 12s 6d; average price per lb. 13d to 15d. Choppers were from £5 8s 6d to £ll 3s Gd; light baconers £6 14s 6d to £6 19s 6d; medium baconers £7 Is 6d to £7 6s Gd; heavy baconers £7 8s 6d to £7 14s Gd, the average price per pound was 10id to llid.
