WAS KING’S RANSOM “DOPED”

SYDNEY, Nov 7. The Sydney Sun’s racing correspondent states from Melbourne that King’s Ransom is believed to have been “got at” before' the running of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington. The top weight finished second last in the field of 31. The only horse behind him was the other New Zealander Lord Revel which bled and walked past the post Mr H. V. Lunken, owner of King’s Ransom, said he was sorry he did not have a swab after the cup, as the horse was not normal. ■ W. Cook, who rode King’s Ransom said: “He ran his race before the start. He collapsed badly about half a mile from home and went past the post at little more than a strong canter. There was something wrong, but I am. not in a position to say whether the horse was nobbled.” Mr Lunken said that the horse's condition after [the iMeltyorne Cup contrasted greatly with his appearance after the C. B. Fisher Plato. GREY DISTRICT CLUB’S MEETING At a meeting of the district committee of the Greymouth Jockey Club, programmes for the Reefton Jockey Club’s meeting on December 17th., were approved. Indication of these dates will be forwarded for the Racing Conference’s recommendation. The Westland Club’s programme offers total stake money of £1125, the principal stake being £2OO lor the Westland Handicap. The Publicans’ Handicap will carry a stake of £l5O. The Reefton Club has offered £1043 in stakes, the President’s Handicap being worth £175 and the Maimai Handicap £l4O. The Moon-light-Slatey Creek Spoils Club’s programme on February 4 was also received. The committee received an application from H. Reardon, of Nelson, for a trainer’s licence. The licence was recommended.
