TARANAKI REQUESTS FOR MORE LICENSES FOR HOTELS

Recommendations for issue of up to three additional publicans licenses for New Plymouth; for substantial increases >'n the bar accommodation, and for more wholesale licenses were made by witnesses in submissions to the Licensing Control Commission, when it opened its sitting here to-day The commission heard submissions by local bodies and other organisations Hotel lessees, and licensees are to give evidence. Expert opinions were subirfitted on the standard and suitability of the existing hotel accommodation and ba'facilities, and the witnesses were unanimous that, at present they were inadequate for the public needs. Support was also expressed for the granting of a license to the North Egmont Hostel. A further suggestion v, as made to the commission that it should make a second tourist house license available for Egmont National Park, thus making it possible to use one also at the Dawson Falls hostel.
