Former Matron Unveils Honours Board at McBrearty Annexe

Mis? K E. M. Julius. M.8.E., a former matron of the Mcßrearty Annexe unveiled the recently erected honours boards at the anneve last evening. The chairman of the Grey Hospital Board, Mr J. E. Stokes, briefly outlined the purpose of z the honours board, and then called upon Miss Julius to unveil it. Miss Julius said that it was, indeed, a great thrill to her in being given the opportunity of unveiling the board. She had the opportunity of receiving her M.8.E., decorations at Government House or Greymouth and chose the latter seeing it was in Greymouth under the Hospital Board’s direction that she had partly gained her honours. The honours board was an invaluable acquisition to the institution in that it gave the training staff an added incentive to study and to have, if possible the distinction of their names on the honours board. Already there was 31 names on the board, three having topped the Dominion, which reflected great credit on the McBrearty Annexe as a training school. The three to top the Dominion were Nurses M. P. Simons, June, 1941; A. M. Dufaur, December, 1942; J. Grant, December, 1948. Nurses to gain honours were: M. M. Ward, E. Lyall, June 1942; J. Hill, D. M. Finch, A. I. McKenzie, December, 1942; M. G. Watt. T. E. Croxford, D. Bell, June, 1943; M. M. Quinn, E. C. Slater, A. K. Simpson, December, 1943; J. E; Burrows, R. I. Goffin, December, 1944; P. J. Dunn, I. V. Sixtus, June 1945; S. M. McKay, P. A. Walters, W. F. Baldwin, N. Higginbotham, June 1947; E. Dawson, M. Dempsey, J. Douglas. V. Edwards, J. McLeod, M. Sloane, December, 1947; D. H. Moore, J. Anderson, G. Turner, Jun'Z 1948. Mrs D. M. Parfitt presented Miss Julius with a spray. After the ceremony, Miss T. N. Hughes and her staff entertained the gathering to a sumptuous supper. On behalf of the Plospital Board and other visitors, Mr W. Gutberlet in a few well chosen words thanked Miss Hughes and her staff for their cordial hospitality
