AMPLE PROVISION FOR ALL TO VOTE P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov 7. The writs for the general elections were issued today, and with their issue the closing date for the nomina- ’ ons was ’ f Ned. The date is 16th. November at noon for candidates in European and Maori electorates The registrars for the various eleciorat.es wil be advertising immediately the fact that nominations can now br? received Nominations must be accompanied by the usual deposit of £lO to be forfeited if the candidate does not poll a Quarter of the total of the winning candidate. The Electoral Office advises that, although the rolls are now closed, those who qualify after the closing ahd a»e not already registered for another district, may enrol up to the day before election day, and can vote by declaration. This applies to people coming of age and to others acquiring voting status for the first time after the closing of the roll, such as immigrants. Maoris who are not enrolled may vote by the declaration method, as at previous elections. People exercising postal votes may do so from now until the close of the. poll at 7 p.m. on November 30. Postal votes are available to travellers who will be'out o£ the country on polling day but who retain voting rights,(and also to sick persons and certain other' groups. A postal vote may be exercised immediately if the elector knows for whom he wishes to vote. A message from London, published in some newspapers today, said New Zealanders there were dissatisfied at arrangements for recording their votes by postal voting system. It is learned however that postal voting papers are already on their way by air mail to those who inquired earlv, and there is still 23 days to which the New ZealandersHn England may have their postal voting papers sent to them, and votes returned.
