SATURDAY’S MATCHES IN GREYMOUTH

In la junior match between the Technical High School’s first eleven, and Marist Old Boys, Tech won by an innings and 52 runs. High School won the toss, and elected to field. Marist in their first innings scored only 27 runs, with only one player B. Bayley reaching double figures, with a score of 13 runs. Bowling for High School C. Coumbe took 4 wickets for 6 runs, and D. Hendry took 3 wickets for 6. In their first innings High School declared with 134 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The principal scorers were D. Hendry 33. T. Mayell 39. W. Bullock 36. J. There was a good muster of players and spectators.

The president, Mrs L. Beck, declared the season open, and called on the Mayoress, Mrs F. F. Bous fridge, to speak. The Mayoress wish ed the players success in the season and presented the Margaret Ryan Memorial Shield and Dittman Cup to Mrs D. Horrack (Captain of the United team which won both trophies). Each of the players who represented West Coast against the Englishwomen, was presented with an enlarged photograph of the team. Afternoon tea was served, and the first round of the Dittman Cup was commenced. BLACKBALL v. COBDEN Cobden won the toss and elected to bat, being all out for 28. S. Mountford (4 for 11), E. McGuire (3 for 11), T. Smith (2 for 3) and H. Mountford (1 for 7) were the successful trundlers. Blackball replied with 109, H Mountford scoring 38; L. Pascoe 13, and T. Hokitika batted first, scoring 91 runs, the principal scorers being L. Clausen and I. Gillman, each with 26 runs. Bowling for United, H. Bring tool* 5 wickets for 20 runs.
