Buller Labour Party Election Committee

Mr C. H. Thomas presided at a meeting of the Buller Labour Party Election Committee, there being a large attendance. It was decided that a room at the Community Centre be engaged for one month as headquarters, with Mrs Irene Ryan (organiser) to be in . attendance. A donation of £5 17s 6d was received from the Seddonville branch, and the secretary (Mrs D. I. Harlen) stated that a social was being held for further funds. Members of the committee were invited to attend. The Member for Buller (Mr Skinner) repotted that successful meetings were being held all over the electorate. Advice was received that Mr M Moohan, M.P. for Petone, would visit Westport on November 7, and meetings will be arranged in the town and country. Mrs Harrison donated a duchess set for competition. This was received with thanks. The secretary of the Bul’C’.' L.R C. reported that a donation of £lOO had been received from a supporter. Mr Skinner advised that he would return to Westport on November 29. Westport Badminton Season Closing The finals of the championship events will be played by the Westport Badminton (Nub in the Army Hall at 7.45 p.m. on Monday, as follows:— Women’s singles: A. Henderson v. P. Cooney. Men’s singles: A. Duncan v. J. Jackson. Combined doubles: A. Duncan and Mrs Duncan v. W. Elliott and Mrs E. Kearns. B grade combined doubles: Semi-final: J. Pooley and Mrs D. Thomas v. J. Duncan and S. Nelson. Final: J. Jackson and B. Mockett v. winner of semifinal. 13 grade combined doubles: J. Pooley and Mrs D. Thomas v. J. Duncan and Miss Nelson; winner v. J. Jackson and B. Mockett. The final round of the Todd Rose Bowl competition resulted as follows, A team mentioned lirst: Mrs E. Kearns 13 lost to Mrs A. Duncan 15; Mrs D. Thomas 7 lost to Miss P. Cooney 15; Miss B. Mockett 3 lost to Miss S. Nelson 15; Miss J. Hullah 3 lost to Miss P. Cooney 15; A. Duncan 2'l beat C. Christie 12; B. Elliott 13 lost tto J. Jackson 21; J. Neill 10 lost to J.
