END OF H.M.S. “AJAX” RECALLS BATTLE OF RIVER PLATE

P.A. . LONDON, Nov. 4. The scrapping will begin next week of 6985 ton cruiser “Ajax” this is the last survivor of the Royal Navys three cruiser which destroyed the German Docket battleship “Graf Spee' in the Historic River Plate action in December of 1939. .-Mr Dugdale the Parliamentary secretary to the admiralty, recently announced to the House of Commons that the Ajax would be broken up. With the Ajax in the River Plate were the Achilles, which was transferred to India last year and is now the “Delhi” and “Exeter” which was sunk during the battle of Java Sea in 1942. It was suggested last year the Ajax would be sold to the Chilean Government, there was immediate public outcry against the sale.
