Ministers Must Have Been Misled, Says Councillor

At yesterday’s meeting of the Grey County Council, Cr R. Clark said that he wanted to register an emphatic protest at the decision of the Minister of Works, the Hon. R. Semple regarding the proposed new access road to Blackball. “I don’t know- where the Minister got his information from but it is incorrect and he must been been misled,” added Cr Clark. “I don’t think we can blame the Minister. He takes the advice of his engineer,” said Cr J. Ryall, M.L.C. The council accepted ah invitation by Cr Clark to inspect the route of the proposed road, on which work was commenced but stopped some time ago. The chairman, Cr J. Mulcare, said that formerly the council made a periodic inspection of all works in its area and he thought that it would be a good proposition to make an inspection every three years. In regard to the introduction of a £30,000 permanent water supply to the township of Blackball it was stated that the council had been charged £3OO for survey work carried out. It was suggested work on the survey of the water scheme should be stopped to prevent the council from being finacnially committed further in view' of the absence of a written agreement on the subject.
