The Omana left Auckland on Tuesday for Greymouth with general cargo. She is due to-morrow morning to load coal for Miramar. To date this week, the Greymouth wharf has had a busy time, and with four ships still in port, and a further three expected, Hie indications are that the wharf will not be idle for some time to come. The Karepo, which had not completed loading in time to sail on the noon tide yesterday, completed last evening, and was expected to sail about 1 o’clock this morning. The Kartigi, which arrived early yesterday morning, will load coal, sailing about Friday, for Auckland. The Poolta is expected this morning from Wellington, and will load coal for return. The Matthew Flinders has nearly completed loading- the million feet of timber which she will take to Melbourne on Saturday.
Soundings have rrvealeU considerable shoaling in the berthages. This is rather unfortunate, in view of the shipping likely to enter port within the next few days, and of the absence of the dredge Mawhera, which is in use by the Wanganui Harbour Board. A good deal of shoaling has also occurred in the centre of the river. This would be a hinderance to the swinging berth. The indications are that restrictions may b e imposed on colliers working the port next week.
