AIR FORCE STORE FIRE AT SYDNEY

SYDNEY, Oct. 12

Damage estimated at £60,000 was caused by a spectacular fire which broke out in the R.A.A.F. store in the suburb of Regent’s Park this morning. A series of violent explosions rocked the nearby suburbs. Flames could be seen 20 miles away. Exposions from bursting chemical containers were heard eight miles away.

The outbreak occurred in the medical and administration section of the stores depot and was not noticed until the flames broke through the roof and leapt 300 feet in the air. An oxygen cylinder was blown through the roof of the medical store and. penetrated a wall 100 yards away. Other explosions blew out the walls of the building ,and stone jars containing chemicals burst like bombs adding to the hazards of the firemen. The main store was saved.
