JAPANESE NOW LOOK TO THE AMERICANS
(Rec 10.30) NEW YORK, Oct 11
The Japanese worshipped General MacArthur as slavishly as they formerly worshipped Emperor Hirothito, Dr. William Tolley, Chancellor of Syracuse University, declared to-day. He recently toured Japan as a member of an educational survey team sponsored by the United States Army. Dr. Tolley said: — “General MacArthur, and his staff, have done a magnificent job. The Americans have won the respect of the Japanese people. They have planted the seeds of peace and democracy, and purged the wartime leaders, and they have Communism on the run. The Japanese worship of everything American is real. They feel that they have now few friends left in the world. We appear to them as their champions. We' ought to capitalise that.”
