DUTCH FINISH JAP. RIVER PROJECT IN CELEBES
MACASSAR (By Airmail)
A big hydro electric project begun by Japanese technicians in 1943, near Tonsealma, in the Minahassa area of the Celebes, nears completion by Dutch engineers and an army of Indonesian workers. Dutch officials stated that Dutch authorities in exile in Australia during the war first heard of the project through secret agents. The project they said, was part of a Japanese plan to develop the Celebes as a southeast Asian defence bastion and supply point for the Japanese fleet. Allied bombing delayed construction.
