IMPORTED STOCK VALUED AT £500,000
SYDNEY—Studmasters anxious to replenish bloodlines had imported from England since the war horses valued in Australia at about fASOO- - a racing authority said recently. The racing authority added that this estimate of value was based on the registration with the Australian Stud Book of 291 English thoroughbreds brought here since the war. At no other period in the history of thoroughbred racing in Australia had there been such a rush to buy horses of performance and pedigree. High racing stakes in Australia and a generous purse at the annual yearling sales had spurred breeders on in a race for supremacy in the industry, it was- stated. REUTER.
