Over 11,000 State Houses Allocated To Ex-Servicemen
A further 167 State rental houses were allocated to ex-servicemen tenants during. August under the 50 per cent allocation system. This brought the number of tenancies so allocated to 11,014 at the end of that month. Under the system at least half of all newly built or newly vacent State rental houses and flats are set aside for recommended ex-servicemen tenants. Recommendations are made on the basis of urgency by the Rehabilitation Housing Committee in each centre.
District allocations to ex-service-men as at the end of August with those for August itself given in parenthesis, are: Auckland-North Auckland 3152 (29), Waikato-Bay of Plenty 901 (18), Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay 554 (14), Taranaki 338 (8), Wellington Province (including Wanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa) 3679 (42), Nelson - Marlborough - Westland 307 (12), Canterbury Province 1255 ( 31), Otago Province 598 (9), Southland 230 (4); totals 11,014 (167).
