[Our Own Correspondent]

Mr and Mrs J. Hausbury and.' Mrs K. Foster, of Ross, paid a brief visit to Paringa last week. Mr J. Minehan, of Cheviot, is here on a visit.

Mr R. Rowley was a visitor to Greymouth last week.

Mr Ron Bretheren who has been engaged in the sawmilling industry in this district for the past six months has returned to Hokitika.

Mr W. Levett, senr., of the Fountaine sawmill, is on a visit to Hokitika.

Messrs R. Searle and T. Lucas, who travelled last week to Christchurch were obliged to take the Lewis Pass route, as the other one was blocked.

Miss I. Roberts has returned from Greymouth. The recent floods caused a good deal of damage in this district, washing out the northern approach oi the Little Wanganui River bridge, obliging motorists to use the utmost care in’ crossing. There was a foot of water in the garage of the Public Works Department and in that of the Road Service, while the tea rooms of Mr G. FI. Robertson was affected in front by water and silt. The flood left silt three feet deep in places along the main road. In various places the country roads were eroded as was the main highway between the Big Wanganui bridge and Mt. Hercules. It may be a week before facilities are back to normal. Further south the road to the glaciers was seriously eroded.
