CORRESPONDENCE

Youth Clubs

Sir,—None more than rhe present time presents an opportunity to welcome to our midst those young- people referred to in a recent letter by a citizen of Greymouth- (Mr R. P. Chibnail). We, the committee of the Greymouth Scouts Organisation, welcome the practical interest of all young folk, of all ages, to join this world non-sectarian, non-political organisation of ours. The' recent trips abroad of some of our finest young citizens—Philip James, Redge Skelton and Alan Dodd—young men on the brink of manhood, only goes to show the value to any young person or early training in the great virtues 01 the Scouting Movement. We would welcome the interest of even older people such as parents, and that, too, of Mr Chibnallj who, perhaps, is more watchful and sensitive of the need for fiealthy recreational facilities and training than are many others, perhaps even including ourselves. The Scout Movement is generally organised throghout the world as an organisation for clear chinking and kindly deeds, and is one that must commend itself to every parent, win desires to inspire and bring forth the best practical and idealistic characteristics in every son and every daughter (and there is fitting facility here in the- Girl Guides). Our aim is to impart to youth, through the interest of our leaders, both youth and adult, the impetus to greater fellowship and understanding, which is inevitably more fruitful when instilled into the younger generation That is the period when leisure may be best utilised in a complete en vironment such as the movement offers. The motto bears this out.— “Be Prepared.” For the Greymouth Boy Scouts’ Committee, I am. etc., D. J. RUTTER, Chairman.
