U.S. Convict Composes Cantata That May Bring Freedom

NEW YORK, September 2 Two thousand people stood and applaused a life-term convict today, after hearing, “Big Spring”, a Cantata which he had written in the Tennessee State Prison. The convict, Frank Grandstaff, heard his composition for the first time when it was sung by a thirty-five voice choir at Big Spring, Texas. He wrote the cantata in honour of Big Spring’s one hundredth anniversary. Leading citizens will ask the Governor of Tennessee to free Grandstaff. He was convicted ten years ago as a habitual criminal.
