Townswomen’s Guild

WELLINGTON, September 28 “Too much stress must not be put on the social side —the guilds must not become purely entertaining organisations,” said Mrs. E. R. Walton in her presidential address at the annual council meeting today of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds. >■ ■ The object of the Townswomen’s Guild, said Mrs. Walton, was to encourage the education of women to enable them to contribute to th e common good. The conference, which is being attended by 75 delegates from throughout New Zealand, was opened by Lady Freyberg, who expressed her interest in the guilds and said that, when she returned to England she might have an opportunity of active participation in such organisations.
