[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, September 27. Mr, and Mrs. L. Harris of “Balmcral,” Cuiverden ,are visiting Reefton Mr. and Mrs. T. Crowe of Wellington. who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. Harvey, Upper lov, ay, left on return on Tuesday. The Hokitika Municipal Band will visit Reefton on Sunday and will join with members of the Innngahua Silver band to render a programinee in the Band Rotunda and at the Hospital. An inspection of the ii c alarm system at the Nurses’ New Home was made by members of the Reefton Veil nicer Fire Brigade on Monday even ng Members of the Brigade were given instructions on the working of the alarm by Superintendent C. Coxall. The annual St Stephen’s flower show held recently at the Gymnasium Hall drew a high standard of exhibits, particularly in the flower sections ,although the entries were not as large as the previous show. The Wicken Cup, for the highest points in the flower sections was won by Miss Craig (Matai), Mr H. Buckland being runner-up. The winner of Mr and Mrs Black’s trophy, for the aggregate points in the domestic and industrial sections was /Mrs Somerville (Mawheraiti). Mesdames J. King and N. Baxter being equal as the runners-up. Miller’s trophy for the champion bloom of the show was won by Miss Craig. Tests have been carried out with the new automatic fire alarm system at the Reefton Nurses’ home. It is the intention of the fire brigade to carry out regular weekly tests, at stated times, with the home alarm system. St Stephen’s Church, Reefton, was well filled on Sunday evening when a service in memory of a former vicar, Rev. Vernon L. Teaning who died recently when attending a synod meeting at Nelson. The Rev. B. C. Machell paid tribute to the work of deceased. Special hymns were sung during the service.
