RUGBY LEAGUE BOARD OF CONTROL MEETING

Appreciation of efforts of the League in providing transport and reserved seats for them for the West Coast v. Australia match, was expressed by Mr L. Stone and four patients of the Seddon Ward, Grey River Hospital, in letters received at last evening’s meeting of the Board of Control of the West Coast Rugby League. Mr Stone also thanked the League f° r providing comforts for him each week whilst he is in hospital.

The secretary reported having made application for a re-broadcast, by 3YZ, of the second test match between New Zealand and Australia, to be played at Carlaw Park, Auckland, on October 8.

The Mulcare family acknowledged the League’s message of sympathy. Mr N. Griffiths presented a report on the recent South Island v. Australia match, stating th e conduct of the players was excellent.

Linwood Club wrote re the Stuart Harrison Cup match, the letter being referred to the Marist Club. The third grade representative team as submitted by the selectors was approved, and F. Hassan was appointed captain and W. Kennedy vice-captain. Mr A. Hogarth was appointed manager of the West Coast team, and Mr E. Garth local manager of the Canterbury team. It was decided that, as the result of the draw in the senior knock-out match last week, the Runanga and Blackball teams be declared joint winner’s of the knock-out cup, and that Blackball and Marist be matched in th e semi-final for the Hopkins Memorial Cup, which is awarded for the champion of champions in the senior grade. The winner of the semi-final will play Runanga in the grand final. It was decided that the Thacker Shield final between Runanga and Prebbleton be played on October 16. Brunner were declared winners of the third grade one-round competition, and Marist winners of the fifth grade knock-out and two-round competitions. Mr J. Griffin extended an invitation to the Board of Control members to attend a meeting of the Referees’ Association on Saturday evening next, this being the final meeting of the year.
