P. & T. DEPARTMENT SHOWING SURPLUS
P.A. WELLINGTON, September 27. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, various classes of estimates under control of the Post-master-General, Hon. F. Hackett, were discussed. Replying to a question raised by Mr J. T. Watts (Nat., St. Albans) Mr Hackett stated that there was no chance in the world of giving to the public £600,000 which the extra penny on war-time postage charges yielded last year. The P. and T. Department made a surplus of approximately £lOO,OOO last year. In spite of the increasing costs, it was hoped to continue to show a surplus, he said.
