M r A. E. Lawrence, chairman of the Canterbury Education Board, at its meeting, moved and it was carried: “That tiie attention of the Minister of Education be drawn to large expenditure involved in .the provision of intermediate schools being planned for Christchurch and that the Minister be asked to consider the advisability of reviewing the aim of the intermediate school and to give consideration to the desirability of raising the status of these schools and their staffs, to ensure more definite continuity of educational processes by providing in intermediate schools two, three and, for some pupils, four-year courses which will enable the staffs to assess more accurately the aptitudes of the pupils .going on to more advanced education.”

Mr Lawrence said that within the next few years the board would involve itself in an expenditure of approximately £500,000 on the proposed three or four additional intermediate schools in the Christchurch area.
