CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 26

One man was killed and another suffered head injuries when a light truck left the road about 100 yards below the main gates to Victoria Park, on the Cashmere Hills, about 6 o’clock last evening. The victims were: — Killed: George Frederick Halliday, aged about 40 years, a painter, of 82 York Street, Christchurch. Injured: Lyall Vincent Kermeen, aged 18 years, 81 Wainui Street, admitted to hospital suffering from head injuries. His condition last evening was reported as satisfactory. There were four other occupants of the truck, two of whom were uninjured. Two were treated at the Christchurch Public Hospital and sent home. The truck, travelling down hill, capsized as it left the road and turned over several times before it came to rest upside down six chains below the road. WELLINGTON, Sept. 26 A cyclist, aged about 50, whose identity is still unknown, received fatal injuries when he was involved in a collision with a motor-cyclist in Wellington yesterday morning. The motor-cyclist, Mr J. Bowen, of Makara, suffered head injuries and concussion and his condition was reported to-day by the hospital authorities to be fair. AUCKLAND, Sept. 26 Two youths were killed when a motor-cycle they were riding hit a telegraph pole on the Paeroa-Waihi main highway about two miles from Waikino. They were:— James Arnold Hofmann, aged 19, a railway employee, of Frankton Junction, and Brian William Howes, aged 19, a railway employee, of Frankton Junction. The homes of both youths are at Katikati. Hofmann was killed instantly, and Howes died in the Waihi Hospital. PRAGUE, Sept. 25 At least seven persons were killed and 25 injured when three racing cars, at different times, crashed into spectators watching the Grand Prix of Czechoslovakia at Brno. The cars plunged into the spectators packed tightly on a sharp curve. The three drivers, one of whom was Prince Bira, of Siam, drove powerful cars. Prince Bira was not hurt. Two drivers were '.killed in earlier runs.
