GOLF B. Tebay’s Outstanding Performance
The scores recorded in the medal match played by members of the Westport Golf Club on Saturday were exceptionally good. In several instances and for a beginner, the nett 64 recorded by B. Tebay was outstanding. He won the match and had his handicap reduced by six strokes. The best cards returned were: B. Tebay 82-24/66; R. Avery 37-20/67; C. Harrison 78-10/68; H. Maitland 84-16/68: D. Fountaine 767/69; R. Smith 85-15/70; C. Foote 89- 2; F. Fraser 84-11/73; A. Meek 90- A. Pam 85-10/75. Besides the reduction in Tebay’s handicap, the other adjustments made were R. Avery 20 to 17, C. Harrison 10 to 9; H Maitland 16 to 14;- and R. Smith 15 to 14. Two McGrath Cup match were nlaved on Sunday and resulted in D. Ryder beating F. Fraser 2 and 1 and H. Greenwood beating Z. Quiupel 3 and 2. In the semi-final of the intermediate championships over 36 holes, R. Smith beat T. Phipps 2 and 1 after Phipps had a lead of 4 u 0 at the 18th. The weekly four-ball, best-ball bogev played on Sunday was won by C. Schadick and A. Wood. 7 up, on the count back from D. Symes and S Stacey. Other good cards were: F. Fraser and A/ Crock 4 up; H. and B. Lovell 4 up; K .Broad and C. Harrison 4 up; D. Ryder and R. Moss 1 up; A. Pain and J. Caldwell 2 down’; Queripel and J. Hill, 4 down.
