MARCHING UNIFORMITY OF JUDGING IN COMING SEASON

GREY ASSOCIATION MEETING

There was an attendance of over 50 at the annual meeting of the Greymouth Women’s Marching Association held last evening.

The report and balance sheet which showed the association to be in a sound position were adopted. An interesting and much appreciated interlude was the showing of a film taken in the course of the Grey Marching Association’s championships at Rugby Park. In addition to showing this film, Mr Digby James also presented a screening or several well-knowm New' Zealand tourist resorts. At the conclusion of the films Mi James was given a hearty vote of thanks. Miss M. Roberts, secretary of the West Coast Centre of the New Zealand Marching Association, gave a comprehensive report on the annual conference of the Association held in Wellington recently. She said that the association is looking forward to the coming season with every confidence of it being the best yet. The sport is rapidly increasing and becoming more popular each year More centres are being formed eacn season and with, the present, rate of progress every province in New Zea land will be well represented within the next year or two. Not only does marching provide keen competitive sport, but from a health, and beauty point of view'there is no better sport. Many young women have entered marching teams bent up and round shouldered but a course in marching soon gave them a physique to be proud of. It is easy to pick a member of a~ marching team when in the street for she can be seen walking with a uprightly gait while others less fortunate perhaps slink along in a slovenly fashion. . . , A conference of chief judges, of the nineteen centres w'hich comprise the New Zealand Marching Association will be held in Wellington on Sunday next when the chief of the Dominion judges, Lieut.-Col. G. P. O’Leary, 0.8. E.. wili preside. A thorough study wiil be made so that a standard

march plan will be established in all phases of judging. A Wellington team will be used for demonstration purposes As a res.ult of the conference there should be absolute uniformity and a high standard of judging in the Dominion during the coming season. - Officers elected include: Patron, Mis E. Parfitt; President, Mr W. Green.’ secretary. Miss J. Mather.
