Fogarty and W. H. J. Watson, Justices, in the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday on two charges of theft. He pleaded guilty and was admitted to probation for two years cn the condition that he takes out a prohibition order. An order was also made for the return of the goods. Mr W. D. Taylor representing Ward said that liquor appeared to be the accused’s trouble. Under the influence Ward seemed to lose all sense of responsibility, he added. Detective-Sergeant N. Thompson said the accused had been seen about 2 a.m„ on. August 11 in Mackay Street by Constable Morrison and had various articles in his possession. Ward said he had purchased them the previous day. “While you are on probation you are not discharged and are liable to be brought before the court to be dealt with, should you give cause.” said Mr Fogarty.
