Grey Harbour Engineer Receives Appointment In Tasmania

Following his visit to Tasmania towards the end of last year where he accepted an invitation to submit a report on the problems of the Devonport Harbour, Mr D. S. Kennedy, the engineer to the Greymouth Harbour Board since Ma v 1939, has been appointed Engineer to the Marine L>oard at Devonnort. Mr Kennedy’s resignation will be considered at a special meeting of the Harbour Board next week. Devonport is an important port at the mouth of the Mersey River, on the north-east coast of Tasmania. Th»re is a population of 10,000, with about 20,000 people in the surrounding district. Mr Kennedy came into the service of the Greymouth Harbour Board from the well-known firm of New Zealand consulting engineers, Messrs Vickermann and Lancaster, and immediately tackled some maior problems in connection with the port. In the ten year period in which ne has been in charge, the reconstruction of the north and south breakwaters and the tidal walls in the river has been completed, along with other important work, testifying to his .-nergy and ability. , „ , Mr Kennedy has been called upon ,on several occasions for- special reports, notably in connection with the pioblems of the Wanganui narbour.
