Mr E. S. Butts, a building contractor, has been let the contract for shifting the houses on the site where the new Greymouth Police Station is co be built. One of the houses will be transferred to a vacant section next to the police constable’s residence at Cobden. The other house will be moved to Blaketown. Plans for the new police station .were completed some time ago and it is expected that as soon as the site had been cleared, the contractors, Messrs J. Calder, Ltd, of Christchurch, will make a start on the erection of the buiding.

The Rev. Fr T. Farrell presided over an attendance of seventy-five past pupils of the school at the second annual meeting of the Convent Old Girls’ Association, which was held recently in St Mary’s schoolroom. The election of .officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs E. L. Kehoe (re-elected, unopposed); vice-presidents Mrs M. Kelly and Mrs E Wood (re-elected); secretary treasurer, Miss J. Raleigh (re-elect-ed unopposed); committee, Mesdames M. Clancy, D. James, M. Pfahlert. V. Messenger and R. Pollock, Miss C. Minehan, M. O’Neil, K. Greaney and A. McGinley. Afternoon tea was served and the birthday cake was cut. Musical items were given by present pupils of the school. A pleasant re-union concluded with Benediction at the Convent Chapel, given by the Rt Rev Monsg. J. Long.
