U.S. Woollen Shares in Sudden Slump
(Rec 1.0 a.m.) NEW YORK Mar 20. The American Woollen Company—the world’s largest manufacturer of wool fabrics, to-day reported that orders have slumped to less than onelifth of the volume of a year ago. Mr Moes Pendleton, the company’s president, told the shareholders mat orders for the first 10 weeks of 1949 totalled about 11,000,000 dollars, compared with 68,000,000 for the same period of 1948. The report brought a quick reaction on the New York Stock Exchange, v here American Woollen shares fell by five dollars, to 29.70 dollars.
