Sir Peter and Lady Buck left Auckland- on Monday afternoon by air on the first stage of their return to Honolulu. The aircraft landed at Nandi, Fiji, shortly after 8 o’clock.

The many friends of Mr J. I. McIlroy, formerly of Greymouth and now of Palmerston North, will be pleased to learn that he is recovering in health after a period in hospital where he underwent an operation.

Discussion lasting about two hours took place at Parliament Buildings between the British Ministei' of State for Colonial Affairs (the Earl of Listowel) and the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser). The Minister or Finance (the Rt. Hon. W. Nash) was also present. Lord Listowel was the guest of the Government at a small private luncheon yesterday. He will return to Auckland on Saturday and leave on Sunday on his return to the United Kingdom.

Mr J. G. Quinn, who has been manager of the Dobson State coal mine for the past eight years, will retire from the service of the Mines Department on Thursday week. He was yesterday bidden farewell by officers of the Grey Valley group of State mines and presented with a silver tea service.' Among the speakers were Mr C. J. Strongman, superintendent of State coal mines, and others who eulogised the services given to the department by Mr Quinn, and wished him and his wife every happiness in retirement.
