LIGHTNING SETS FIRE TO SMALL SAWMILL
CHRISTCHURCH, t.rar 23. When lightning struck a large circular saw hanging from the rafters in a sawmill last night, fire broke out, causing daamge estimated at £5OO. The mill, owned by Mr A. Thomson, is leased by Aitken, Gillespie and Co. Ltd., and had an output ot 6000 super feet of sawn timber per day. A neighbour saw a bolt of lightning strike the mill. A large _ flash followed immediately and flames shot through the roof. The saw, worth £l.OO was buckled by the lightning. The Christchurch Fire Brigade confined the blaze to the m.ll itse.i and saved the engine house, two huts and several stacks of timber.
