EIRE UNABLE TO JOIN ATLANTIC PACT WHILST DIVIDED

(N.Z.P.A.—REUTER CABLE) (Rec. 9.10). LONDON, February 26. Eire could not participate in a North Atlantic Pact unless she is given complete control of Ireland’s defences. The Foreign Minister of Eire, Mr Sean Mcßride, pointed this out in London.

He said: No Irish Government could enter into a military alliance with Britain while portion of- the country was being occupied against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the Irish people. It is quite obvious that, for military, as well as for economic considerations, there must be a central authority having the support of most of the people.
