AWARD FOR OPTICAL WORKERS

AUCKLAND, February 25.

A new award for optical employees throughout New Zealand, except in the Wellington industrial district, has been announced in the Arbitration Court by Judge A. Tyndall. It gives a 40-hour five-day week and overtime rates.

Learners will get £1 15s in their first six months of employment and thereafter six-monthly increases, to £6 in the fifth year. Mechanics will receive not less than £7 12s 6d weekly, and those in charge of three or more workers, £8 2s 6d.

Attendants, both male and female, will get £2 weekly in their first six months. After five years the male wage will be £6 and the female £5. The award dates from January 21 last.
