FINES OF £150 ON BUILDER FOR BREACHES OF REGULATIONS
P.A. WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. Fines totalling one hundred and fifty pounds were imposed by Mr H. J. Thompson, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, on Eros Georgellis, a carpenter, for breaches of building regulations in the city of Wellington. The prosecution was brought by the Building Controller. The defendant pleaded guilty of charges of (1) using cement for a wall without a permit; (2) proceeding with the building of a house after he had been ordered to cease its erection; (3) that in building a house he did not conform with specifications of the permit issued in respect of the house. Imposing a fifty pounds fine on each, charge, the Magistrate said the defendant had been in the country for eleven years, and ought to know something of the building regulations. He had defied a warning, and although! account would be taken of the fact that he was a foreigners, the offences must be regarded as very serious.
